Definition : Rocker

Definition: The rocker of a surfboard is the curvature of its length(how does the nose is stretched).

A pronounced rocker facilitates take-off These include "late" in the trough, fast manoeuvres and turns in very hollow waves.

The rocker will follow a curved trajectory better and will grip better in the length thanks to the greater curvature and contact surface.

In this case, we're talking about contact surface and not flotation, because the nose is thin but elongated.

On the other hand, a flatter rocker, as with the longboards, grovelers or other summer boards, offers greater buoyancy in straight lines and on rougher softer "mellow" waves because it provides greater buoyancy and contact area. So you'll get off to a faster take-off.

This type of rocker is less suited to powerful, hollow waves, as the nose tends to plant itself in the wave. You'll need to take off with a deep nose. tailto avoid crashing on a hollow, committed takeoff. In any case, this is not the purpose of a board with a flat rocker!
