Definition: This term comes from the English "overhead", to specify that the waves are relatively high (above 1 meter 80) to exceed the head of a surfer standing.
This generally indicates high waves that can be challenging. There's also the term "double overhead" and many others, to refer to the height of a wave.
Here's a short list of the different sizes to help you make sense of it all:
- Ankle-high 30 cm (1 ft)
- Knee-high 60 cm (2 ft)
- Waist-high 90 cm (3 ft)
- Chest-high 120 cm (4 ft)
- Head-high 150 cm (5 ft)
- Overhead 180 to 330 cm (6-11 ft)
- Double overhead 360 cm (12 ft)
